Yanmar Co.Ltd. Is a Japanese diesel engine manufacturer that has been on the market for more than 100 years. The first workshop named Yamaoka Engine was opened in 1912. Since, the Yamaoka introduced the vertical oil engine for agricultural applications, followed by the horizontal design. By 1935, Yanmar became known for the 2-cycle vertical diesel engine model 5Hp), HB model, and introduced some basic fuel principles. Thanks to all the successful discoveries, in 1938 Yanmar was awarded for research by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation. During the World War II, the main production factory was heavily damaged, but in 1949 the founder Magokichi Yamaoka succeeded to bring the company back to life by manufacturing parts for small diesel engine fuel injection pumps. Company then decided to change the name into Yanmar Diesel Limited.

Yanmar gained its popularity, when the company decided to put a diesel engine in a rice planting machine, that comes with a passenger seat. As years past, Yanmar kept expanding the business in other countries, and soon became one of the leading suppliers of wide range of applications like seagoing vessels, construction equipment, agricultural one and generator sets. After Tadao Yamaoka took the presidency in 1966, Yanmar kept receiving meaningful prizes for models like 3L15 marine propulsion engine, L air cooled diesel engine series, D outboard engine series, vertical water cooled diesel machine and EcoTra tractor series as well. In 1993, Yanmar became a patron of the soccer team Cerezo Osaka and a sponsor of the AFC Champions League. In addition, Yanmar corporation is one of the main sponsors of the German football club Borussia Dortmund and a main sponsor for Manchester United F.C.
