The beginnings of Bethany wines date back to 1852, when Schrapel family first came to South Australia from German and established one of the best wineries in Australia and worldwide. 8 years of the family has settled in South Australia, they’ve decided to plant their first vineyard from cuttings delicately nursed from Europe. The head of the family, Johann was one of the first winemakers in the Barossa Valley, who concentrated more on grape growing than on wine making. Perhaps this is where the success of Bethany lies. The company went through good and bad time and perhaps the toughest period was in 1980 when all Barossa grape growers faced certain loss. However, the fifth generation descendants of Johann, brothers Geoff and Robert Schrapel succeeded to continue the tradition of producing exceptional wines that feature flavours that are a natural reflection of the micro climate of Barossa. Bethany Wines specialize in ultra-premium Shiraz, Riesling, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Merlot, Old Quarry Fronti and Old Quarry Tawny Bethany wines. Brothers Geoff and Robert, established Bethany Wines in 1981, high in the Barossa ranges, overlooking the family’s vineyards. Due to that, Bethany Wines today represents a historic place and a must-see weekend destination.

Bethany Eden Valley Riesling 2011 – This Bethany white wine features strong aroma and freshness thanks to the cooler climate of Eden Valley. Bethany Eden Valley Riesling is one of the best Bethany wines that offers intense aromas of green apple, lemon pith and struck quartz with crisp and refreshing finish. This Bethany wine features excellent flavour ripe characters. Grapes used to make this wine are picked in the early season, and left to retain the desired fruit flavours and natural acidity.

Bethany 2010 Gen6 Shiraz Cabernet – This Bethany wine was first introduced in 1880s and was regarded as one of best Australia red wines labeled ‘Claret’. If you are a fan of fruit flavours, then you should try Bethany 2010 Gen6 Shiraz Cabernet that is easy to drink thanks to the soft tannins and persistent finish. Eben more perfect when paired with foods like grilled barbecued steak and strong cheeses.

* The property where Bethany vineyard is set, is constantly fanned during the summer evenings with cooling gully breezes, that create special micro-climate, so that grapes can achieve the right sugar and acid levels.

* Australia’s leading wine critic James Halliday gave Bethany Eden Valley Riesling a glowing review and an excellent score this year. He considers this wine outstanding and of the highest quality.

* The International Wine Challenge in London has awarded the 2010 Bethany Semillon a gold medal. Where as 2011 Bethany Eden Valley Riesling received Silver medal at the IWC.
