Ralph Lauren represents a mega popular brand in the fashion world. The man behind the brand is originally borned as Ralph Lifshitz to Jewish parents from Prinsk, Poland. Ralph’s ambitions were high from an early age as he stated in his Clinton High School yearbook that he wanted to be a millionaire. And he surely became one. His sense for fashion and business was noticed when he started selling ties to his fellow high school students. He earned his first dollars as a sales assistant in Brooks Brothers before becoming a salesman for a tie manufacturing company. Frustrated over many rejection of his idea for a European necktie, he left the company and started his own. His office was based in the Empire State Building, were he turned rags into ties. In 1967, Lauren opened his first necktie store (backed up by Norman Hilton) where he started selling his own unique designs of neckties under the brand Polo which commercialized the company. The income generated was invested in menswear line which won the COTY Award in 1970. He expand the company by including woman’s departed and in 1972 Ralph Lauren released the iconic short-sleeve polo T-shirt that has become and continues to be company’s trademark. In 1997 the company went public and it’s stocks are traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Until 2007 Ralph Lauren had opened boutiques in over 35 locations in USA, which placed him on 162nd place on Forbes’ richest people of the world.

Men
Ralph Lauren’s first men collection was launched soon after the initial success he had with neckties and it proved to be a good investment. Today Ralph Lauren offers eight sub-brands of clothing for men that differ in purpose and occasion they are designed for. The eight sub-brand categories are the following: Purple Label, Black Label, Polo Ralph Lauren, RLX, RRL, Denim and supply, Big & Tall and the Golf edition of RL clothing. As you can see the range of different styles in apparel is quite big and suits different customers’ tastes.
Women
Woman’s collection is also rich in variety and is divided in almost the same sub-brand categories with exclusion of the purple label and the Big & Tall brand. Instead, these categories are replaced by the glamorous Ralph Lauren collection that offers classic silhouette dresses meant for special occasions. An additional just ”Lauren” sub-brand is the other category included with modern and everyday pieces of clothing offered to urban women.
Fragrances
Ralph Lauren Perfume entered the fragrance market in 1978, after he began his partnership with L’Oreal, the famous perfume manufacturer. The very first perfumes were Polo for men and Lauren for women. These iconic scents started the successful campaign of Ralph Lauren in the perfume industry. The initial success led to further expansion of this department by introducing numerous other scents. Hence, today, Ralph Lauren offers nine different fragrances for men, each intended for different occasions and styles. Woman’s perfume department offers six different scents which guarantee to catch the attention of every man.
