Bosch is a world renowned engineering and electronics brand. On November 15, 1886, Robert Bosch established his “Workshop for Precision Engineering and Electrical Engineering” in Stuttgart, laying the foundation for the future global provider of technology and services. Since then, the three divisions, Automotive Equipment, Industrial Equipment, and Consumer Goods and Building Technology, develop various Bosch products, following the motto “Technology for Life”. From 1886 until today, the key to Bosch’s success were high level of quality and innovation. These characteristics implemented in all products, have helped Robert Bosch place his products on the international markets in the late 19th century. The company has grown rapidly since.
The development of low voltage magnet ignition for automotive engine in 1897, was the beginning of the long list of Bosch’s innovations. In 1902, followed high-voltage magnet ignition system which made this brand the leading world supplier to the automotive industry. Nowadays, Bosch develops its wide range of products through more than 300 subsidiaries and regional companies in over 60 countries and has 280,000 employees worldwide. The international trade network of companies and partners covers 150 countries, ensuring that its products and services will continue to attend the important emerging markets in the future. In 2011, Bosch celebrated its 125th anniversary as well as the 150th birthday of the company’s founder.
Products
Nowadays, Bosch is one of the leading companies in almost every engineering and electronic field worldwide. And all thanks to great relationship with its customers. Many of the Bosch’s innovative technology advances were a result of the great customer interaction and relationship. This spirit of innovation continues to be major part of the company even todays.
Automotive Components – Nowadays, about 60% of the Bosch’s annual worldwide sales come from company’s automotive technology. In 1887, Bosch invented its first low voltage magneto, an electrical source which created sparks to ignite the fuel in the earliest internal combustion motors. Bosch’s logo still represents the armature from this magneto. As one of the earliest manufacturer of Anti-lock Braking system (ABS), Bosch became a leader in specialized fields like body electronics (doors, seats, windows and locking doors), traction control systems (TCS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), oxygen sensors, injections, fuel pumps, etc. Beside these, Bosch is a leader in car stereo and navigation systems. Bosch supplies hybrid diesel-electric technology to great automakers like PSA Peugeot 3008.
Industrial Technology – Beside the success in the automotive field, Bosch is one of the biggest suppliers of packing technology and design. Its subsidiary Bosch Rexroth, is the main supplier of industrial technology, producing electric, hydraulic and pneumatic machinery for controlling, driving and moving machines in applications varying from automotive to mining.
Consumers Goods And Power Tools – Bosch is also known for its consumer goods and building technology with its security alarm systems, power tools, thermo technology and household appliances. With its brands Hawera, Bosch, Skil, RotoZip, Dremel, Freud, Vermont American, etc., nowadays, Bosch is one of the largest worldwide manufacturers of portable tools. Bosch also is the largest European manufacturers of thermo technology with its daughter company BBT Thermotechnik GmbH.
Security Alarm Systems – In 2001, Bosch bought Radionics Inc. and Detection Systems in order to establish its presence in North America with quality security alarm systems and safety products. With Detection Systems company, Bosch obtained extra sales channels in Asia, Australia, Latin America and Europe. Bosch acquired the home alarm companies Philips Communication and Security in 2002 and in 2008, Bosch acquired Extreme CCTV, IP camera manufacturer and a rugged camera and expanded own video and security alarm systems portfolio.
Mobile Phones – Bosch also designs and produces mobile phones. The first Bosch mobile phones were created in 1996, the Com 738, Com 906 and World 718. In 1997, models Com 207 and Com 607 were designed and in 1998, the Com 908 was released. In 1999, Bosch released its last phone models: the Com 509, Dual S 909 and Com 909.

Interesting Facts
Robert Bosch died on March 12th 1942 in Stuttgart, Germany at the age of 80 from an inflammation of the middle ear.
The Bosch company faced serious crisis after the WWI, but got back on its feet in 1927, expanding into the manufacturer of power tools, cameras, radios, television sets and refrigerators.
Bosch is planning to create a manufacturing website for automotive windshield wiper system near Belgrade, Serbia by 2019. 70 million euros will be invested to fund this project.
