Boss Air Suspension

About

Tired of all bumps and potholes you come across getting through to the cabin? Or need a working solution for embarrassing ute rear axle squat? Air suspension has been a viable replacement for traditional coil/leaf spring and shock setups for quite some time, but it’s only in the last few years that the many benefits it offers to large commercial vehicles can be translated to everyday passenger cars. The tech has evolved from simple setups to provide better handling, crisper steering response and cars that are more comfortable.

A major player in the expanding air ride suspension market is local company Boss Air Suspension. Based out of the Gold Coast where the company started their line of air bags in 2005, Boss is lifting the bar, both at home and abroad, with its tailored lift (tow) kits, leading the way in air bag sealing technology and using advanced production methods and machinery in setting new suspension standards. The company first expanded into New Zealand, then into European and North American markets with bespoke air suspension setups to meet differing driver expectations and local vehicle and road requirements.

Suspension Packages

Load Assist Kits

These are packaged systems, which simply bolt onto rear axles and help evenly distribute weight. Each load assist kits consists of a pair of Boss’s Extreme Series double air bags (rated at 750 PSI and 1136 kilos/2500lbs at each wheel), compatible mounting brackets and hardware, approved air lines to supply air into the bags, and dual Schrader valves. All parts are easy to install, and when filled with air, raise the rear end to level out the vehicle. This provides even traction in all tyres, allowing for more grip regardless of weather (wet or dry) and road conditions.

Air Strut Kits

While load assist kits work wonders on fully laden utes, offering improved drivability and safety, consider the rounded suite of air strut parts across all wheels in passenger and performance cars. All the tuning favourites are covered (Golf GTi/R, Subaru WRX/STi, Commodore VE/VF, Ford Mustang) as well as old-timers and restomods. Typical kits consist of calibrated struts and bags and allow you to simply dial in pressure settings, with 32 separate adjustments and a progressive spring rate. For a softer ride, opt for lower pressure, or bump it up to stiffen up the suspension when you need a sportier feel. Every strut kit also comes with matching, high-quality shocks with internal valving.

Boss additionally has mini-truck kits for a slammed or lifted look, systems that can be fitted to trailers for a smoother and safer towing experience, and resells Arnott suspension components for improved ride quality on two wheels.

On-Board Compressor Systems

Boss’s Air Suspension onboard compressor kits supplement the company’s load assist and air strut kits to round out a complete package. They’re a great accessory when inflating air bags for gruelling off-roading tasks, or levelling vehicles with uneven weight distribution. Typical kits consist of 0.75hp 12V compressors, 9-litre air tanks to store compressed air, high-pressure switches, heavy-duty solenoids, braided stainless hoses and all connecting hardware.

The Incab Impressor lines come with digital or analogue gauge readouts, and control switches engaged from the inside. This can be had on the rear or both axles. For automated control choose air ride suspension kits fitted with sensor-dependent management systems that gauge either vehicle height or air bag pressure (or both) and make incremental adjustments as needed.

Suspension Separates

Boss Air Suspension caters to different customers with a wide selection of air suspension separates, ranging from anodised aluminium tanks in varying capacities (from 2 to 15 litres), high-pressure ratings, and varied port sizes and configurations to suit different setups. You’ll also find oil-free 12 and 24V air compressors with high output and 100 per cent duty cycles (the PX-07), digital and analogue air pressure gauges, Boss’s proprietary line of twin-tube shocks with solid chrome shafts, reinforced boots, and 12-way adjustment, as well as the full range of quality fittings.

The company has all major car, ute, 4WD and light-truck makes and models covered with a full line of air suspension kits to suit different customer needs and wants. It also has the custom Off-Road Division for one-off designs specced for extreme off-roading uses.

Why Boss Air Suspension?

Central to any air suspension outfit are durable air springs, and this is where Boss is miles ahead of the competition. It manufactures a complete line of airbags to suit different vehicles, placing durability, reliability and outright performance at the forefront. All bags undergo rigorous quality control procedures, to ensure the highest pressure ratings and strength (with reinforced cords at designated angles). The process is achieved with industry-leading machinery capable of high clamping forces.

The same attention goes to manufacturing compressors, air tanks, solenoids and connecting lines. All packaged systems undergo thorough testing and meet strict government outlines for safety.
