Brembo is a top brake systems producer for cars and motorcycles. It was founded in 1961, Bergamo, Italy by Emilio Bombassei (father of the current president) and is the owner of Opel Ag. The experience gained in metallurgy and mechanics came to Emilio’s benefit when he started his business relationship with Alfa Romeo in 1964. In addition, this year marked company’s history as Bermbo began producing first Italian braking systems. Because of its top quality systems, Brembo became the official provider of brake elements to Moto Guzzi in 1972 and in the 80s, company expanded by providing brake components to Lancia, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Chrysler and Porsche. Over the years Brembo continued to develop and grow as a company and in 1995 went public on Milan Stock Exchange. Nowadays, company sells over 1300 products worldwide. The commercial web sites, which sell products in 70 countries, are centered in Italy, France, Germany and Sweden. The number of employees, nowadays, is more than 5400 people of which 10% are engineers and product experts working in development and research.

Company manages the entire manufacturing system from crude material to distribution. Also, Brembo owns all of its foundries which create materials and provide production plans. Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brakes – Carbon ceramic material (CCM) is used in aerospace vehicle brake systems since 1970 and from 1980 it is also being used for race cars. As of 2000, CCM is being used in a production of braking systems designed specifically for sport cars. The carbon ceramic material is very popular due to its high versatililty since it is as efficient in a dry environment as is in a wet one. Moreover, CMM has a very high lifetime and is cossosion resistant. Advanced brakes made of CCM are set up in cars like: Ferrari, Pagani Zonda, mercedes SLR, Aston Martin DBS, Alfa Romeo 8C and GM Corvette ZR1.
Brembo floating disc – Generally, brake systems are made of cast iron, but nowadays, racing cars and other powerful cars are equipped with disc of combined design that have a a surface made out of hybrid material (carbon ceramic) and a hat of steel or aluminium. The Brembo floating disc is made of aluminium and cast iron. Benefits of this new floating disc are greater comfort, less corrosion, reduced weight and better brake performance.
