María Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Niño or better known as Carolina Herrera, was born on January 8, 1939 in Caracas, Venezuela. Carolina fell in love with fashion primarily because of her mother, who inspired her and gave her the courage and discipline to become what she is today. After receiving positive reviews for her first fashion collection, which launched in 1980, Carolina Herrera moved with her family from Caracas to New York and in the following year founded her own brand Carolina Herrera, Ltd. She was named the best dressed woman in the world in the 70s and 80s. To many best known for her hit fragrances, Herrera is also a hugely successful fashion designer. She is one of favorite designers among many celebrities such as Shakira, Renee Zellweger, Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek. She even had a rare opportunity to design clothes for Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the last 12 years of her life. In 2008, she launched a lifestyle brand CH Carolina Herrera. Beside being a successful designer, Carolina Herrera supports number of charity causes and also works as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. Today, under the name of Carolina Herrera are two main brands “Carolina Herrera” New York, having boutiques only in New York and California and “CH Carolina Herrera”, which is located in over 20 boutiques in the U.S., Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and South Africa. Carolina Herrera is married to Reinaldo Herrera Guevara, son of fashion icon Maria Teresa (Mimi) Herrera Uslar. In recent years Carolira Herrera uses her daughter Carolina Adriana as her muse and collaborator in the business.
