Caterpillar is very successful American company. The story of Caterpillar began over 90 years ago when Benjamin Holt created the first tractor on tracks. This tractor was powered by steam. Benjamin Holt’s nephew, Pliny Holt, opened a factory in Peoria, Illinois in 1910 under the name, Caterpillar. In 1925, the company merged with its biggest competitor, keeping the name. The tractor “twenty” was the first tractor designed and produced by the new company. In 1931, they constructed their fist motor grader and the same year they designed their first tractor on diesel engine. These tractors were very efficient, cutting the costs almost in half. Very soon the company was involved in different construction projects like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. After the WWII, the company started to grow with full strength and new opportunities opened for further development. Over the next 10 years, Caterpillar machines were used to construct over 80,000 miles of roads all over the United States. The Cat machines were also used for different projects even in the cold and freezing Antarctica. In 1954, the company manufactured its first truck loader, scraper and its first self-propelled scraper. The company was present literally everywhere from the far North to the Middle East, and opened manufacturing facilities in other countries around the world, hiring more employees and skilled engineers, constructing trucks and a so-called wheeled tracked excavators. Even the NASA systems were using Cat engines.
