About

What once was old Christian bible church and parish school, today represents a famous Australian wine house that produces some of the world’s best wines. The beginnings of the Chapel Hill vineyard dates back to 1973, when Tom Nelson decided to create a wine house from the ruins. Six years later, in 1979, the Chapel Hill brand was bought by the two families Sellick and Gerrard who continued to develop the winery. Not long after, Gerrard bought the second half of the winery from the Sellick family and he constructed a new one in 1994 with the capacity of 1000 tonnes, or around 80,000 cases of wine. The Chapel Hill winery was bought by Thomas Schmidheiny in 2000 and is since a family owned business by the Swiss family. Operating on around 44 hectares, Chapel Hill produces some of the best wines that come from the McLaren and Adelaide Hills regions. Due to its graceful cellar door, art gallery and beautiful landscape, the Chapel Hill winery was attractive for many tourists and local visitors. As a result, in 2006 the Schmidheiny family decided to make significant changes. Today the Chapel Hill winery is open for visits and attracts people with its delicious McLaren Vale wines and tasty food.
