About Us

The beginning of Colgate starts back in the 1806, when William Colgate first opened a soap, candle and starch shop on the Dutch Street in New York City. His business started to flourish soon after he advertised his business in a New York City newspaper. That was actually the first Colgate ad that was published in a newspaper. But, William didn’t stop there. In 1817, he established a starch factory in New Jersey and expanded his business. After his death, in 1857, his son Samuel Colgate took over the business and renamed the company into Colgate & Company. Later in 1866, Colgate introduced the perfumed soap and essences that quickly became popular on the market. Thanks to all Colgate people, the company succeeded to establish a brand and continually introduces new products on the market. In 1873, Colgate was the first to introduce a toothpaste in a jar that changed the oral hygiene habits of people and left mark in the cosmetic dentistry. In 1896, Colgate company changed the package of the toothpaste, and started producing it in a collapsible tube as it is today. Due to all the achievements, Colgate was awarded top honors at the World’s Fair in Paris in 1900.
