Dolce & Gabbana was founded by Domenico Dolce, born on September 13, 1958 in Polizzi Generosa near Palermo, Italy, and Stefano Gabbana, born on November 14, 1962 in Venice, Italy (according to some sources, he was born in Milan, Italy). They met in Milan in 1980 while working for the same fashion house. In 1982, Domenico and Stefano created a common consultant design studio and soon became the most famous fashion house “Dolce & Gabbana”. The first women’s collection was presented in Milan in 1985 and following collection’s huge success, they opened their first shop in 1986. In 1989 they started designing underwear and swimwear. Dolce & Gabbana begun exporting their clothes in Japan in 1988 and in other countries such as USA. In 1990, they opened their showroom in USA and also started producing their men collections. The line “D & G” was launched in 1994 which was designed for young people at much more affordable prices. The collections of “Dolce & Gabbana are inspired by the love for Sicily, and presented several types of women – strictly educated girls, Latino woman with high heels and woman in pinstripe suit (association to the mafia). Their collections are always original, attractive and surprising. For 20 years, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, created their own fashion line, achieved worldwide triumph and earned billions of dollars.

* Domenico and Stefano are business and romantic partners as well. They broke up in February 2005, but got back together in 2008.

* In 2011 Dolce & Gabbana created world’s most expensive sunglasses which are valued at $389,000. The frames are from pure gold and embellished with a diamond encrusted logo.
