About
The toy industry have become so big nowadays that almost every supermarket includes a separate section offering wide array of toys. However, when going through shelves, it is hard not to notice that only few brand names stand out. One of them is Fisher-Price. The company under the name Fisher-Price was founded in early 1930 by Herman Fisher and Irving Price. As co-founders were also included Price’s wife, Margaret Evans Price and Helen Schelle. They were both also first illustrator artists for the brand. The idea of making the company was not at all a naive decision as Price have had an experience with arcade games, having worked in a game development company in New York. The first toys designed by Fisher-Price were focused on strong construction and interesting themes, and most of them were made out of steel parts so that easy damaging was prevented. Colors of the toys were given a priority in the design process and were carefully chosen. Moreover, the very first Fisher-Price toy presented was Mr. Doodle in 1931. After few decades of successful operation, in 1950s the company included plastic as the main material for new toys because of it’s ability to preserve color for a longer period of time. The first plastic toy of this brand was ”Buzzy Bee”. After the death of Herman Fisher in 1969, the company was acquired by Quaker Oats Company. This ownership lasted until 1991 when Fisher-Price was offered to the public on the stock market. After two years interest for the company was showed by Mattel, and they bought the company shortly after. Apart from focusing on infant toys, the management decided to label all of preschool products under the name Fisher-Price, a decision that lasts until today.
