Giorgio Armani became an independent brand in 1975, when the man behind the name decided it was time to put his energy and thoughts into his own work. Giorgio Armani, born in Piacenza in 1934, started his working career in military hospitals and then moved to Milan where he first worked as a window dresser at a department store, La Rinascente.

His career continued as a menswear seller, which has given him valuable insight and experience in the marketing part of the business. Persuaded by his friend Sergio Galeotti, Armani opens his own design office where he works as a freelance designer for many brands. After establishing the Giorgio Armani Corporation in Italy and Europe, the United States was the new target market to focus on. With a release of his famous Mani collection, Armani soon won the hearts of Americans as well as worldwide acclaim.

Soon, the company expanded by investing in other markets and such is an agreement with L’Oreal to start producing perfumes. In 1995, fragrances like Aqua di Gio perfume and Aqua Di Gio cologne were released only to become timeless perfumes with world recognition. The special Emporio line was presented in the ’80s which became so popular that the company soon opened a new store in Milan just for this line. The ’80s were definitively Armani’s years with all the positive results achieved in every division of the business.

With lower prices for the US market and new shops around the world, Armani brand became even more reachable and famous. His creations full of unique style and recognizable without a label, have become a way of life for many.
