This famous luxury brand traces its origins in Italy in the shop of a shoe maker, Salvatore Ferragamo. After making his first pair of shoes at the age of 11, Salvatore realized that this is his passion and should pursue it. After establishing a small shop in his parent’s house, he eventually moves to Boston in 1914 to join one of his brothers who worked in a cowboy boot factory. This adventure does not last long and somehow Salvatore convinces his brothers to move to California. There he settles in Hollywood, where his name soon gains enormous popularity. He opens a shop for shoe repair and made-to-measure shoes, which many celebrities found attractive. After a longer period of making shoes for cinema he decides to expand his knowledge for shoe making and studies anatomy at the University of Southern California. After thirteen years in the US, Ferragamo returns to Italy in 1927 where he experiences his biggest worldwide success in making shoes. Even after bad economic decisions during the 50’s the company holds a workforce of 700 shoemakers delivering almost 350 shoes a day. After the death of Salvatore Ferragamo the company goes expands internationally offering all kinds of luxury products such as bags, apparel, leather coats, watches etc. The company is in the hands of his family and celebrates its 80th birthday this year.

Shoes
Being the main product on which this brand is focused, the shoes that Ferragamo makes are unique and of the highest quality. The shoe department is divided only for men and women. From classic shoes to several running shoe models, you can rarely be unsatisfied if you choose to by a pair. 90% of the models are leather based, mostly calfskin or in suede over a rubber sole.

Salvatore Ferragamo for women was the first perfume presented by this world famous brand in 1998. Three years after, a whole perfume department by the name Ferragamo Perfumes was established. This department experiences great success offering fragrances under sub-brands of Ferragamo and Incanto. The latest one presented is the Acqua Essenziale launched in 2013. * During his time in Hollywood, Salvatore Ferragamo attended classes of anatomy at the University of Southern California because he could not except the fact that his shoes were beautiful to the eye,but painful to the feet.
* After his death the company fell in the hands of his family, but because of the rule that only three members of the family are allowed to work in the company at the same time, a lot of competition was created among family members.
