About

Subaru is one of many Japanese and Asian car brands that has adjusted well on foreign markets and managed to generate high income. As a separate brand, Subaru is part of Fuji Heavy Industries – a Japanese transportation company that was ranked 26th among the biggest automakers by production in 2011. Subaru has earned its worldwide attention as a brand with its all-wheel-drive layout that was first introduced in 1972. Few decades after, around 1996, this layout became standard equipment for all mid and small-sized (hatchbacks) cars. Origins of Subaru bring us back to 1915 when The Aircraft Research Laboratory was headed in Nakajima. Twenty years later the company was reorganized as Nakajima Aircraft Company and was the primary manufacturer of war planes for Japan during the WW2. After the WW2, this company changed its name in Fuji Sangyo Co. Many other products were produced before the first Subaru car model was presented to the markets in 1954. It was called Subaru 1500 – a car that started a successful story. In 1968 Nissan managed to buy 20% stake of FHI, a step that created a manufacturing collaboration between Nissan and Subaru. Even today, Subaru uses many of Nissan parts in its structure. In return, Subaru’s automatic transmission was used in many of Nissan’s models. Later on, when Renault began a partnership with Nissan, it was Subaru’s all-wheel-drive technology that was used to improve Renault’s models. Today, Subaru is a world wide brand that enjoys great success in prominent market such as USA and Europe.
