The brand Ted Lapidus originated from the name of the eponymous fashion designer, Edmont Lapidus who was born in Paris on 23rd of June 1929 to the Russian-Jewish tailor. The sense for fashion follows him throughout his whole childhood, forcing him to leave medical school in order to pursue his dreams. Lapidus gained fashion experience while being an apprentice in Dior and is soon able to open his own fashion label in 1951. He quickly attracts famous faces like Alain Delon and Brigitte Bardot, who find his creations fresh and unique at that time. What makes Lapidus stand out among many designers is the development of the unisex look and the usage of military features on his designs. Furthermore, he is considered to be one of the biggest influences in the fashion industry who commercialized the classic blue jeans. Ted Lapidus had celebrity admirers of his work like John Lennon, who asked him to design a letter bag known as Bag One, and later on, the famous white suit that John wore on the cover of The Beatles’ Abby Road album. One of his remarkable designs is the popular Safari suit, that people started wearing during their trips to Africa. In the 70’s, Ted Lapidus entered the accessories market as the haute-couture trend was becoming less popular. By 1989, on the top of the company was Ted’s son, Oliver Lapidus. He decided that the company would get marketing attention by placing the brand name on a Formula One racing car in 1990. At the beginning of the new millennium, Ted Lapidus as company stopped designing haute-couture, focused on fashion accessories like watches and fragrances.

Apparel
After leaving the ”haute couture” world, Lapidus’ designs in apparel have shifted to being more classic and simple. Ted Lapidus offers new summer and winter collections every year, with suits and dresses being the driving products according to the annual sale reports. Lapidus clothes may not influence fashion trends as they once did, but they are still considered fine pieces with the same high quality as the brand itself. All apparel products can be found almost anywhere, from the local suburb malls to online retail stores if you prefer to shop on-line.
Fragrances
Ted Lapidus perfumes are the other half of the company that holds much of the profits. In the perfume assortment, the company currently offers 17 perfume names that are mutually distinct by scent and bottle design. Entrance in the perfume world for this famous brand happened with the release of its first scent called Vu in 1975, which was a property of L’Oreal and then eight years later was sold to Jacques Bogart Group. Many of the unique scents that Ted Lapidus produces are designed and created under collaboration with popular perfumes like Gerard Anthony, Norbert Bijaoui, Martin Gras, Maurice Roucel and Jean Jacques. Today, same names which date 25 years ago are popular perfume brands with strong identities. Such is the Lapidus Pour Homme Black Extreme. This fragrance was first launched in 1987 and it has been successful ever since. Moreover, Ted Lapidus perfumes can be found in every perfume store and online retailer.
