About

Trangia is a Swedish company founded in 1925 by John E. Jonsson and his father-in-law. Since its foundation, the company has been leading the windproof stove industry for almost a hundred years. They started out by manufacturing aluminium household pots, and then later went on to manufacture cooking products that are meant specifically for camping to meet the growing demand. In 1938, John’s two sons, Erik and Olle started working with him and developed and launched the first Trangia stove system prototype. The idea was to build a complete, compact cooking system running on liquid fuel that’s easy to use. In the 70s, Erik’s sons, Lennart and Bengt joined Trangia. Today, Lennart is in charge of technical development while Bengt is the CEO. The company has been passed down for generations and the 4th generation is now slowly taking an active role.

The name Trangia comes from the village of Trång. John decided to remove the circle above the å and add “ia” for in aluminium. For decades, the name has become renowned as one of the strongest brands not only in Sweden, but worldwide. Trangia represents modern design, solid competence and long experience. The Trangia camping stove has been developed and refined over its 60 years of existence, and it’s still manufactured in Sweden in the same village where the business was started almost a century ago. The closeness of the mountains has made performing practical tests in harsh weather a natural part of the business. The details and functionality of the Trangia stove have been modernised and optimised, but the ingenious, original design of the stove is still the key to its worldwide success.

At the heart of the storm-prove camping stove is the two-part windshield. It features ventilation holes in the lower windshield which are turned to face the wind in order to increase the oxygen supply. If the wind is too strong, the stove is turned to maintain the required flame. The burner runs on methylated spirits or Tenol, both which are safe, low cost and readily available. The combined lid/frypan can be placed on top of the pan to save fuel and speed up heating. The stove stands stable, and the pan is on the supports recessed into the upper windshield. When the frypan is used, the supports are turned upwards. The stove can be used with gel burner, gas or multifuel, all of which can be found in our accessory range.

We prioritise quality, sustainability and responsibility in all areas of our business, including manufacturing, choice of materials, safety, performance and design. The Trangia stoves have always been produced in the mountains of Jåmtland, north Sweden. The entire company is based in one place, close to nature to ensure every detail of our product stands for true quality. Environmental thinking is evident to those of us who are in close proximity to nature. Our manufacturing processes are environmentally optimised, including the water used during surface treatment, which undergoes total purification before leaving the factory. The packaging is 100% recyclable, made from environmentally approved cardboard.
